Many people avoid sales because they picture pushy tactics. Good selling, especially for a young company, is closer to problem-solving: understanding someone’s situation, helping them see whether your product fits and making the decision easy.

Why Founders Must Sell

In the early stage, nobody understands the product and the customer problem better than the founders. Early sales conversations are also one of the best sources of product insight. Delegating sales too early often means losing that learning.

Consultative Selling

Consultative selling focuses on asking questions, listening and recommending a solution only when it genuinely fits. If your product is not right for someone, saying so builds trust and reputation.

Your Advantages

Non-salespeople often have strengths: deep product knowledge, genuine curiosity and credibility with technical buyers. You do not need to adopt a persona; you need a process.

Exercise

Write down what makes you uncomfortable about selling. For each item, write how the consultative approach in this course addresses it.
